The Sierra Leone Ambassador to Belgium Philip Bob Jusu met the Mayor of Tervuren, Mr Thomas Geyns, in Brussels. The meeting focused on building practical links between Sierra Leone and the local community in Tervuren.
During the discussion, Ambassador Jusu spoke about Sierra Leone’s location in West Africa. He explained that the country borders Guinea and Liberia, giving access to a wider regional market of nearly 30 million people. He noted that this could be of interest to investors looking to operate in the region.
He also spoke about agriculture as an important part of the economy. Sierra Leone produces crops such as cocoa and coffee and has room to expand into processing and other forms of production. In addition, he mentioned that tourism is gradually attracting attention.
Mayor Geyns said he was pleased to host the Ambassador and noted that it was the first time he had received an African ambassador since taking office 16 months ago. He spoke about his interest in practical cooperation that benefits both communities.
The Mayor stressed the value of regular contact and said cooperation often begins with small steps. He also showed interest in holding further meetings and possibly arranging exchanges or visits in the future.
This was the third mayor Ambassador Jusu has met in the Brussels area, following earlier meetings in Kraainem and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre.
