Brussels,1st July- On Monday, 30th June, staff from the Sierra Leone Embassy in Brussels visited the family home of Ms. Midiatu Dora Bangura, who tragically passed away in a road accident in Belgium on Friday, 20th June 2025.
The embassy team, led by Ambassador Mr. Philip Bob Jusu, and including Deputy Ambassador Mrs. Asmaa James, Head of Chancery Mr. Jonathan Las-Lamin, along with other staff members, presented a floral tribute, a condolence card, and a funeral donation to Ms. Bangura’s father, Mr. Mohamed Lamtay Bangura.
During the visit, Ambassador Jusu offered his sincere condolences to the family for their deep loss, highlighting the heartache of a parent losing a child, especially at the young age of 27. He stressed that the Embassy supports its citizens through both good times and bad. Ambassador Jusu mentioned hearing many positive stories about the late Midiatu and her impressive character, particularly her work as a host for red-carpet events throughout Belgium and wider Europe.
Mr. Mohamed Lamtay Bangura thanked the Ambassador and his team for their visit. He commented that their presence would be a great comfort to the family during this challenging period. Though he wished the meeting had been under happier circumstances, he accepted that this was God’s will and would not question it.
Family members, including the husband Ibrahim Sorie Barry, also expressed their gratitude and urged the Ambassador to continue such community engagements. They spoke about the value of togetherness and hoped the Embassy would continue to regard the Sierra Leonean diaspora as one family.
Midiatu will be laid to rest on Friday, 4th July 2025, at the Fatih Moskee, Beringen, Belgium, after the Juma prayer.
