Following his credential presentation to His Royal Majesty the King of the Netherlands, Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu held his first meeting with the leadership of the International Criminal Court (ICC), President Tomoko Akane and Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan.
President Akane was full of praise for Sierra Leone. Acknowledging Sierra Leone as a strong supporter of international justice systems, she noted that the country provides not just crucial funding, but also top-tier talent, with many Sierra Leoneans serving in key posts in The Hague. She described the bond between the Court and Freetown as deep and robust.
Justice Khan was equally complimentary, pointing out Sierra Leone’s central role in driving the policy on slavery crimes forward. She mentioned her office is watching with interest as Sierra Leone pushes to extend the Rome Statute to cover modern slavery. In response, Ambassador Jusu assured them that Sierra Leone remains a staunch friend to the Court, ready to offer solid support through challenging times.
Ambassador Jusu also engaged in a fruitful discussion with Sierra Leonean Judge, Justice Miatta Samba.
