Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu continued his diplomatic outreach with courtesy calls to Ambassador Jobarteh Pa Musa of The Gambia and Ambassador Kelvin Conmy of Ireland in Brussels on Thursday, 19th June 2025.
Ambassador Jusu’s visit to the Gambian Ambassador was twofold: recognising Mr. Pa Musa’s coordination role within the West African Group of Ambassadors and acknowledging the longstanding sisterly relationship between their nations. He sought to learn from Mr. Pa Musa’s experience as Coordinator to inform his own new diplomatic posting.
He underscored that both countries, being smaller African nations, face similar hurdles, making collaboration on development crucial. Despite previous work with the African Union in Belgium, Ambassador Jusu aims to deepen his knowledge of the West African Group and the OACPS.
Ambassador Pa Musa extended a warm welcome and congratulations to Ambassador Jusu on his credentials. He acknowledged Ambassador Jusu’s strong grasp of Belgium, predicting this would be beneficial. He also elaborated on his coordinating role, highlighting OACPS challenges, such as obtaining EU financial support and member contributions. He stressed the importance of their collective mission: “To serve each other’s countries with mutual respect and professionalism.”
At the Irish Embassy, Ambassador Jusu met with Ambassador Kelvin Conmy, reiterating Sierra Leone’s commitment to liberal democracy, openness, and multilateralism since 2002. He stressed the Sierra Leonean government’s belief that alliances with countries like Ireland are vital for maximising diplomatic and development benefits within the EU framework. Ambassador Conmy offered professional guidance as required.
Deputy Asmaa James, Information Attaché Betty Milton, and Third Secretary Ina Bio were present at both engagements.
