THIRD  AU-EU MINISTERS CONVENE TO ADVANCE IMPLEMENTATION OF JOINT VISION 2030

The third AU-EU Ministerial Meeting took place in Brussels on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, bringing together African and European ministers and partners to discuss the implementation of the Joint Vision for 2030. This ambitious vision, adopted at the 6th AU-EU Summit in 2022, outlines a comprehensive partnership between the AU and EU.

The Joint Vision 2030 aims for closer cooperation across vital areas including economic integration, peace and security, and human development, envisioning a future where both continents thrive in peace, security, democracy, prosperity, solidarity, and human dignity. Key pillars of this vision encompass: Economic Cooperation and Sustainable Development; Peace and Security; Human Development; Global Force for Multilateralism and Sustainability.

The meeting featured ministerial presentations, a thorough review of the Joint Vision 2030’s implementation progress, and the adoption of a joint communiqué.

The African Union emphasised the need to align the AU-EU partnership with the AU’s own Agenda 2063. Discussions highlighted macroeconomic stability and ongoing reforms, particularly through initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Sierra Leone’s delegation, led by Ambassador Harold Bundu Saffa, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, actively participated in the proceedings. Ambassador Saffa underscored Sierra Leone’s commitment, stating, “Sierra Leone deeply values the AU-EU cooperation and seeks to tap into the opportunities offered by the partnership. This will offer increased opportunities to shape the shared future between the two sides.”
